Eucharistic Adoration Synchronized Celebration - St. Peter’s Basilica, cathedrals and parishes around the world including Friendship Chapel.  

As a special event for the YEAR OF FATIH, at 5pm (Rome time) on June 2^nd, on the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi) Pope Francis will preside over a special hour of Eucharistic adoration that will be synchronized for the same hour around the world in cathedrals and parishes in each diocese. For one hour Catholics around the world will be united in prayer and adoration in the presence of the Blessed Eucharist.  For us that hour will be from 11am to 12noon Eastern Daylight Savings Time. 

Plan now on 2 JUNE 2013, to come for the 9am Mass, (afterwards, possibly visit the Exchange Food Court for coffee and/or breakfast) and then join us at the Friendship Chapel (the white, wooden chapel in the rotary) at 11am for this Year of Faith holy hour of Eucharistic Adoration in union with the whole Church.

The Chapel will cover the cost of a cabin and an evening banquet for you and your family along with a variety of fun and meaningful events. Your transportation to the retreat, all other meals and any other incidentals will be at your own expense. Additionally, military members will need to coordinate with their chain of command for time off to attend this event. You can choose from one of the four date options below:

Wednesday, 12 June – Friday, 14 June

Monday, 5 August – Wednesday, 7 August

Wednesday, 7 August – Friday, 9 August

You will have opportunities for quality family time in the scenic Wateree Recreation Area. Activities will include an outdoor movie, family dance night, “old timey” games, a family banquet, and a workshop on how to share meaningful stories across the generations. There will also be ample free time for you and your family to enjoy each other’s company.

On Thursday, May 2nd, at 6:30 am, Sumter will celebrate the Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast at Alice Drive Baptist Church which is located at 1305 Loring Mill Road, Sumter, SC.

The breakfast, hosted by the Sumter County Ministerial Association, will feature 700 Club regulars Dale & Jena Forehand and the program will begin after the breakfast at 7:00 am.  You can find out more about the program by finding the digital information sheet located HERE.

It had been six days since we walked out on our Egyptian taskmasters, but our liberation was not yet complete. Not until the seventh night, when the Sea of Reeds parted for us—and then crashed down to utterly destroy our Egyptian pursuers. Only then did we feel our chains fall away forever.

We relive that taste of ultimate freedom on the seventh and eighth days of Passover.

Holiday Observances:

Light holiday candles on both nights, and make Kiddush and have festive meals on both nights and both days.¹ We don’t go to work, drive, write or switch on or off electric devices. We are permitted to cook and to carry outdoors (except on Shabbat).

First Day:

We read the Sea of Reeds story from the Torah, and the song of praise we sang afterward. All rise when the song is read.

Second Night:

Those with a deceased parent light a 24-hour yahrtzeit candle before dark. (If the first day is Shabbat, light after dark.) Light from a pre-existing flame.

Second Day:

Yizkor during the morning service.

On the final day of Passover, there is special focus on the final liberation, the one that’s yet to happen (as of this printing). The haftorah is a classic prophecy of that era. To celebrate, the Baal Shem Tov would make a festive meal, which he called the Feast of Moshiach. You can bet your local Chabad center will be hosting one, replete with matzah and four cups of wine. It usually starts shortly before sunset.

It takes some time to repurchase the chametz that was sold for Passover. Hold out just one more hour after nightfall before eating any chametz.
