    Year of the Dynamic Catholic

We just completed a Year of Faith in communion with our Catholic brothers and sisters around the world.  This Liturgical Year, your Pastoral Advisory Council voted to implement a vision for our community, adopting a theme this year: “The Year of the Dynamic Catholic” inspired by Matthew Kelly’s book, The Four Signs of a Dynamic Catholic.  I encourage everyone to visit the website to order this book and read it.  The book can be free or you can make a donation.  It will certainly inspire you!  Throughout the year, you will hear our priests referencing this book and the four things that engaged Catholics have in common:

    1. Prayer:  Dynamic Catholics have a daily commitment to prayer
    2. Study:  Dynamic Catholics are continuous learners
    3. Generosity:  Dynamic Catholics are generous
    4. Evangelization:  Dynamic Catholics invite others to grow spiritually by sharing the love of God with them

The Four Signs of a Dynamic Catholic highlight how much the church accomplishes with only 7% of its members actively participating beyond Mass.  It’s an easy read; about 200 fairly small pages.  It’s filled with direction that can help us all improve our faith community and attain better versions of ourselves.  We have around 300 people attending Mass each weekend, yet over 1,000 Active Duty Catholics serve at Shaw.  It’s time to start engaging our fellow Catholics!  Reading this book can offer tools for this task.  May the Holy Spirit guide us as we transform ourselves into a more active faith community.  Transforming people one at a time is at the heart of God’s plan for the world.  Please read this book and let’s stand united in increasing both Catholic Faith and Catholic impact throughout the world by simply starting here at Shaw AFB.

    Yours in Christ,

Joe Wyen – OLOS PAC President
